Earthworms Plus
Earthworms Plus owner Carmen Pirotte was raised in Essex and Hudson Counties; her exposure to wildlife was limited and consisted of the less than appreciated variety: garbage can raiding mammals, seemingly fearless naturalized birds & whatever invertebrates made their way through sidewalk & blacktop cracks and gaps between walls and floors.
Early in Carmen’s environmental education career path, she was required to teach about earthworms and composting. She liked learning and teaching about composting; the opportunity to work with earthworms was, well, not anywhere in her “things to do before I die” list. Slowly, as in more than a decade later, Carmen learned to appreciate earthworms.
Carmen has kept an earthworm bin in her home since 2004 and uses it for outreach education programs. In 2006, Carmen set up outdoor earthworm bins and with the help of thousands of her invertebrate companions, she composts deciduous leaves.
Carmen has an undergraduate degree in Geoscience with a specialization in Environmental Science and K-12 Earth Science certification. Her M.Ed. is in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.

Katy Sheehan is the owner of Katy’s Cakes based out of Flemington, NJ. She is currently the Pastry Chef at Rose Mediteranean in Caldwell, NJ where her creativity transfers onto the plate. At Katy’s Cakes she strives to use local ingredients, when available and uses no convienience products (ie. Pre made pie crust) EVERYTHING is made in house and from scratch with care. Katy tries to accomodate all of her customers, even those with allergies/dietary restrictions such as gluten, sugar, fat, lactose, and vegan.
